The novel process HFQ (solution Heat treatment, cold die Forming and Quenching) is a sheet material production process, which allows aluminium and other metals to be formed into complex geometries and with limited spring-back effects compared to traditional stamping processes. The enhanced ductility allows for a range of components to be manufactured that would have previously been manufactured from slower or more material intensive manufacturing processes such as machining. The HFQ forming technology was developed by Prof. Jianguo Lin and his team and patented by Imperial College of London.
